Siegbert Rampe’s two volume edition is a journey to the early 17th century with a wealth of valuable pieces for keyboard instrument. Volume 1 presents works by Johann Christoph Bach (J. S. Bach’s uncle), Ferdinand III of Habsburg, Johann Pachelbel , Heinrich Scheidemann , Samuel Scheidt and others.

Many of the works appear for the first time in print. Especially noteworthy are a newly discovered prelude presumably by Johann Pachelbel and the sole surviving keyboard work by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber .

This scholarly-critical edition is based entirely on the surviving sources. In addition to a critical report and a list of sources, it contains a detailed preface with sections on ornamentation, editorial method and performance practice.
