Pehr Henrik Nordgren (1944-2008) composed string quintet op. 110 in 2000. The work is scored for two violins, viola and two cellos. In his previous 4th (1997) and 5th symphonies (1998), Nordgren had been particularly fascinated by the world of Ingrian shepherd melodies and laments, which are characterized by the continuous magical repetition of simple motifs.
