Richard Festinger’s A Serenade for Six is a virtuoso work that shows the performers’ skill and artistry as soloists and chamber musicians. Much of its 16 minutes is ‘dance-like in character, vivacious in the outer movements, and restrained in the middle.’ The Los Angeles Times wrote that ‘The whole was complicated, yet decorative and merry, a musical garland.’ The Serenade may serve as a companion to a later work of Festinger’s, After Blue.
