This book presents traditional Turkish rhythms for the drum set in a clear and easy way. Instead of using the usual Western method of counting this book uses ’sound speech‘

– spoken rhythms – with syllables representing the notes. Together with a formal introduction to the study of Turkish rhythms this enables a pictorial representation of the rhythm. Many rhythms thus explain themselves and can be easily learnt.

Shakir Ertek, born in Istanbul is drummer and teacher in Freiburg/Germany.
